I recently interviewed a woman who has a job that I could only dream of having: Sara Grimes has an enviable position as an academic who studies children’s media and technologies, including gaming. She also has a blog, Gamine Expedition. Ms. Grimes’ focus may be on children’s media in particular, but her intelligence and hard work provide vital critiques and some oft-needed appreciation of our much maligned pastime. I enjoyed our interview, especially her answers, as I hope you will. Read the rest of this entry »

This month I got to interview a girl after my own gaming heart. Fireez is the mod for the LiveJournal group gamer_chicks, (Also known as the Guild of Gaming Women) I sat down with her, (actually my computer as she lives in Germany) and enjoyed one of the most intelligent conversations I’ve had in years. Her intriguing outlook and honest opinions prove once again that girls who game are more than just a pretty face. (And hot bodies, we gamer girls have very hot bodies!) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Read the rest of this entry »

I first found Girls Don’t Game several months ago and was immediately drawn in by the depth and variety of posts by the five women who write for it, so I jumped at the chance to interview Monique, founder and administrator of the blog. She offers a unique perspective on video games and the online community, and I hope you enjoy her responses as much as I did.

I first learned of LesbianGamers.com through the Iris Gaming Network forums. From there I started reading their blog and occasionally popping into the forums. LesbianGamers.com is run by Angela Simpson and Tracy Whitelaw and they are based on the Gold Coast of Australia. Tracy Whitelaw, the PR Representative, talks to me about this new site made by and for lesbian gamers.

Mighty Ponygirl’s Feminist Gamers started up right around the same time as Cerise and Iris started to come together, and I’ve followed the blog with considerable interest. I asked Mighty Ponygirl if she’d do an interview with us for this month’s issue, and was thrilled when she agreed. I hope you’ll all find her responses to my questions as interesting as I did.

Pietoro, or Pai, as she is known elsewhere on the internet, has been a regular poster on the Iris forums almost since their creation. When she created a gaming blog, The Pensive Harpy, in August of this year, I immediately added it to my list of blogs to follow, and haven’t been disappointed that I did. I knew she’d have some interesting things to say in an interview, and I’m sure our readers will agree.

When the other editors and I decided on a horror-themed issue for October, I immediately knew that I wanted to approach the bloggers at Girl in the Machine for our Blogger Interview. The blog is still pretty new – they’ve been posting since June – but their coverage of survival/horror games has been extensive and comprehensive, and I knew they’d have some interesting things to say about the genre.
