Odds 'n Ends
This month marks Cerise’s first birthday, and the magazine’s parent site, Iris, is just a teensy bit older. We asked our community members to talk a little bit about what the site and the magazine have meant for them over the past year. Here’s some of what they had to say:
Cerise and these boards are such a great haven. It was getting to the point where I was considering swearing off gaming communities altogether when I found y’all… and all the links to other blogs of people who understand my points of view that I’ve found from here, were also great!
- Pietoro
If you haven’t yet checked out the Iris Directory, a wiki for listing gaming blogs by women, you should give it a look. Maybe you’ll find some blogs to add to your regular reading list, as Pietoro did.
For me this site has been encouragement. It’s encouraged me to start writing again even though i haven’t written anything outside of technical documentation for work since college.
- Tersa
One of the things the editors love most about working on Cerise is getting submissions from gamers who are being inspired to write about their hobby for the first time.
I’m extremely proud to be a contributing member of a magazine like Cerise, even if I write silly fluff articles. I see us growing with every new issue and interview, and I’m incredibly thankful to be part of a space like this where I’m the norm, not the exception.
- Roger, Gold Leader! (aka Staff Writer Abby Wilson)
Several of our community members wrote about how important it is to them to have the sort of experience that Abby is describing:
We can enjoy [talking about games] without hav[ing] to endure subject[s] like “top 10 hottest womenz in games”!
- Asilic
…this site has allowed me to identify and articulate frustrations that i come across in the industry and in the games themselves. Working in studios that are male dominated, it’s hard to discuss some topics, and not having that many female gamer friends, this site is a huge breath of fresh air, and relief. It’s nice not to worry when i post an idea, or a frustration, i know that i will get honest replies and support when needed.
the short of it is: <3 <3 <3- Twyst
Happy Birthday, Cerise! And a great big “thank you” from the editors and site maintainers to our readers and community members for making this past year so awesome.
<3 <3 <3!
